# Fran Berman

**Director of Public Interest Technology, UMass Amherst**

Fran Berman is the Director of Public Interest Technology and Stuart Rice Research Professor at UMass Amherst's College of Information and Computer Sciences. She is a founder of the Research Data Alliance, former Director of the San Diego Supercomputer Center, and former VP for Research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her honors include the ACM/IEEE Ken Kennedy Award and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
